The towers of Maple's first highrise condominium are going up within an urban oasis.

The Bellaria Residences by Solmar Developments Corp. will be located on an eight-hectare site where wildflowers bloom and where red squirrels and jack rabbits are spotted, right across the street from Vaughan Mills, the largest shopping mall in Ontario.

The park will be private, for the exclusive use of Bellaria residents, with a gatehouse manned 24 hours. It will consist of interconnected streams, parkettes, gazebos and landscaped walkways.

Since the site opened last August, virtually all of the 242 suites in the first tower have sold and it's under construction, with occupancy in June 2007. Tower two units are now being sold, with prices starting at $219,900, with about half of the 226 units sold. Suites range from 600 to 2,000 square feet in size. Eventually, four towers will complete the site.

The 16-storey building was designed by award-winning architects Burka Varacelli, with architectural precast walls, cupolas and barrel vaults. The bronze-tinted windows will give a consistent golden appearance to the exterior, regardless of residents' choice of window treatments.

"It's an art deco design and it will be a trademark for the area," says Solmar president Benny Marotta. "It's the type of design that looks better as more time goes by. It lasts forever and it's beautiful."

Marotta says planning on the project started more than five years ago, and approvals took a long time to obtain. It was the first highrise in Maple, where no other building stood more than four storeys.

Amenities in Bellaria's VIVA Club include a state-of-the-art efitness centre, a billiards lounges, steam room, yoga room, TV room, lounge, games room and party room.

There's also a guest suite on the main lobby level.

Suites have been inspired by an elegant European lifestyle and standard finishes include granite countertops, stainless appliances, soaker tubs and choice of 40-ounce carpet or laminate flooring.

Mostly young professionals are buying in the project because the price of detached housing is out of the range of many of them. Still, with Bellaria, buyers will enjoy a luxurious home "with every amenity you can imagine," says Marotta.

Hwy. 400 is a one-minute drive and Hwy. 401 is accessible in less than five minutes.

To visit the sales office from Toronto, take Hwy. 400 north to Rutherford Rd. Go east on Rutherford to Jane St. Turn left. On the right you will see the sales office.

It is open weekends from noon to 6 p.m. and Monday to Thursday from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. You can also visit www.solmar.ca/bellaria or call 905-417-8482.
